Meet Lynn
Speech Pathologist and Literacy Specialist
Lynn grew up in Toronto, Canada and always had a passion for reading. As a child she visited the library regularly and read books voraciously. This love of reading carried throughout her school years and led her into a career as a speech-language pathologist. She recieved an honours undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in child development and completed her master's degree in communication sciences (speech-pathology).
In her role as a speech-language pathologist, Lynn became aware of what a struggle learning to read was for many children. In Canada, she supported children with autism and other developmental disabilities to learn to read. She also provided guidance to parents about how they could help make reading a more consistent and positive experience with their children at home.
In 2016, Lynn and her husband moved to Sydney with their two young children. Once Lynn's children entered school she became connected with other parents and learned how many children were struggling with reading, not because of a disability, but a lack of engagement with the process of learning to read. She found many parents looking for support and not knowing where to turn.
Since this time Lynn pursued further education and completed a graduate certificate in education (language and literacy) with the aim of helping any and all children learn to find a love for reading and achieve their goals.

Beyond a Reading Tutor
For over two decades Lynn has been supporting children’s language and literacy development. Using a family-centered approach, she has helped children find success by tailoring programs to fit their needs, capitalise on their strengths, and work within the unique family setting. Experience has taught her that learning to read is not simply about decoding words on a page but igniting an excitement to discover what is there. Once this passion is found children can develop a positive association with reading and begin to build a strong literacy foundation.
Lynn believes all children can develop a love of reading and reach success, but it is important to meet kids where they are. That is why, through appropriate assessment, each child's program is tailored to meet their specific needs and adapt as they improve. Although all programs are customised, the science of reading is at the forefront of each program to ensure a rigorous, systematic and explicit approach to reading instruction.
Programs are based on age and abilities and can include:
-
Phonics
-
Spelling
-
Reading comprehension
-
Reading fluency
-
Grammar
-
Writing instruction
